Newtown High School "Arts Week" - Sidewalk Art

On May 21, Newtown High School kicked off “Arts Week” with its annual Sidewalk Art Day. This has become an event the school and community look foward to every spring. Art teachers Mr. Feigelis, Ms. Pati and Ms. Raneri were happy the weather was perfect for the students to create their artwork. This will be Mr. Feigelis’ last exhibit since he announced his retirement.

Van Gogh had two starry nights as well as cartoon tributes, flowers and landscapes. Newtown will miss its dedicated art teacher and wish him all the best! The outside exhibit will remain until it washes away. Student artwork is also exhibited in the lobby.

The music department hosted its annual spring concert on Friday May 24, under the direction of Mr. Vasquez.

The school musical “In the Heights” is scheduled for May 30 to June 1. Musical Director Mr. LoVerme was able to get Randy Montalvo, a former Newtown student, to teach percussion and lantino rythms of the merengue and salsa to the students. Mr. Montalvo, who toured with Carlos Santana and Marc Anthony, will also be performing in the play.
